Whilst campus is closed, and societies are operating online, you might be interested in using resources online to meet with your members and undertake social activities. It's not nice being so detached from each other, but there's a wealth of things you can do using the internet to keep in touch and still have fun together.

Free Resources

Zoom

You can get a free Zoom account for online video chatting. This runs for a maximum of 40 minutes with up to 10 attendees. If you would like more attendees or longer meetings, you can get a paid account. 

 

FutureLearn

https://www.futurelearn.com/courses

You can take hundreds of free online courses at FutureLearn, from some of the best specialist organisations and Universities in the world. If you're a special interest society - like Environmental - maybe you could all undertake the Causes of Climate Change course to learn more about what's happening globally. Or you could pick something completely different to your course or society and have fun learning something new together. 

 

Netflix Party

(Free, but requires Netflix subscription) You can watch a film or TV series really easily together via Netflix. One person can even be responsible for starting and pausing the film, so you can all watch it at exactly the same time. The window has a chatbox to the side, so you can talk about what you're watching at the same time. I'm hoping we all get an invite to Cheerleading's 'Cheer' watch party!

 

Online Blog

Start a chill online blog, right here on the Guild website, that all of your society can contribute to. You can post articles, recipes, info about your day - anything you feel like saying! 

 

Tour a museum together

Loads of museums, such as MoMA in New York and Tate Britain, have made it possible to tour their collections online. Get on a video call and tour it together. Maybe one of your society can play tour guide! 

Paid resources

If you're a society that wants to use a paid service online, get in touch with your lead staff member or officer. They'll be able to discuss options and help you to get this off the ground.
