As a course rep, it's important that you communicate with the students that you represent.
You may want to let them know of things going on around campus, ask for their feedback or close the feedback loop. Here are some ideas of ways that you could communicate with students:
1. Face-to-face
People always prefer face-to-face interaction when possible and we know that it gets the best results. You could ask your lecturer for some time at the start or a session or attend your classes graduate advantage to talk to them.
2. Create a WhatsApp group
Creating a WhatsApp or messenger group is a great way to stay in touch with people and acts as a way to socialise and build community as well as a place to send updates and information.
3. Facebook Group
If lots of students on your course have Facebook, you could create a facebook group. This way, all of the members could share files, photos and information on the page too.
4. Social Media
As well as groups and chats, you could set up a social media page dedicated to providing information and updates to the students you represent. If you've got lots of photos, Instagram is a great shout or if you prefer shorter updates, try twitter. Remember you'll have to do some work to get people engaged with this and following you.
5. Ask your lecturer
You can always ask your lecturer to send out a message on your behalf, letting students know about an upcoming opportunity. This could be a great opportunity to work in collaboration with teaching staff at UCB.
6. Canvas
We know that all students have access to Canvas at UCB so using the messaging or notification system on this might be great. For support with this, you could also ask your lecturer.
7. Posters
If there is a regularly used communal area by students on your course, you could try putting up posters or flyers to communicate something to students on your course. Remember to always ask permission from security before you do this, otherwise they may be removed.
